Enrollment Instructions

Enrollment is a two step process that is completed online. The first step is Pre-Registration. Once pre-registration is completed and you are given approval to move forward, you will receive directions to set up your PowerSchool Parent Portal Account where you will complete the second step, Enrollment Forms and Supporting Documentation. Please complete each form in its entirety and upload required supporting documentation. When documentation is required it will be noted at the bottom of the form you are completing. We understand that you may not have access to a scanner, your cell phone or tablet can be used to scan your documents. Click HERE for instructions for how to use your mobile device as a scanner. You may also consider taking a picture on your cell phone and upload that picture as your documentation if needed.

Please remain patient while we work through the finalization of your student's enrollment. There may be requests throughout the process to provide additional information when appropriate prior to final approval. You can check and review the status of your enrollment by logging into your PowerSchool Parent Portal account, select "Enrollment Forms" from the side menu, then select "Enrollment Status". PRIOR TO ENROLLMENT: CHECK YOUR ADDRESS FOR RESIDENCY

Parent or legal guardian and the student MUST be physically/legally residing in the Troy School District attendance area in order to start the enrollment process. Maps are available on this page or at Troy City Parcel Search. Once residency has been verified, follow the steps below to start the registration and enrollment process.

Enrollment in the Troy School District is based on Residency which is where a parent/legal guardian owns and/or physically resides. Within our district boundaries, your residency address is assigned to a specific attendance area/school.

If your child is currently receiving Special Education Services and/or have a current 504 Plan, the most current documents are beneficial at time of enrollment to ensure student’s appropriate placement. Please let us know if we can assist in any way.

English Learners (EL)

When completing the Home Language Survey enrollment form, you will be asked if the student's native or primary language is a language other than English. If you answer YES to either question, our English Language Department will follow up to complete a screening to determine if English Language support is needed.

Free & Reduced Meal Application

The Food Service Department accepts applications for free and reduced meals throughout the school year. If you believe you may qualify for free and reduced meals, please view the free and reduced Instructions.

Troubleshooting Enrollment in PowerSchool

If you are experiencing issues with the enrollment forms in PowerSchool, clear your web browser history (Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge).

How to Clear Google Chrome Cache

Step 1: Launch Google Chrome and click the Chrome menu icon represented by three horizontal bars in the upper-right corner of the browser window, and click Settings near the bottom of the resulting drop-down menu.

Step 2: Then, click the link for Privacy and Security in the left sidebar. You’ll then want to click that and look for the Clear browsing data option. Click it, and make sure the box for cached images and files is checked. You can uncheck the other boxes for browsing history or cookies and other site data if you only want to clear the cache.

How to Clear Firefox Cache

Step 1: Open settings — Open Mozilla Firefox, click the button with three bars in the upper-right corner of the browser window and select Options from the resulting drop-down menu.

Step 2: Clear the browser cache — Click the Privacy and Security tab located on the right side of the navigation bar and head to the Cookies and Site Data section underneath. Click the button labeled Clear Data. You’ll want to make sure that the option for Cached Web Content is checked, and then press Clear. You can also check the box next to Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed to do so automatically when you close the browser.

How to Clear Safari Cache

Step 1: Open settings — Launch Safari, click Safari in the upper-left corner of the main menu bar, and select the Preferences option near the top of the drop-down menu. Then click the Advanced tab located in the top navigation bar and check the box directly on the bottom that says Show Develop menu in menu bar. This will add a new menu to Safari by default.

Step 2: Clear the browser cache — Click the Develop menu near the middle of the main Safari menu bar and select the Empty Caches option.

To begin the enrollment process, read through all of the Enrollment Requirements, then complete the pre-registration form by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.

Once your form has been submitted, you will receive an email from pssupport@troy.k12.mi.us confirming submission.

After your information is reviewed, you will receive an email with directions to complete the next step or a request for additional information. If you do not receive the email - check your junk or spam email folders.

Setting up a PowerSchool Parent Portal Account for all NEW Students OR Accessing an Existing PowerSchool Parent Portal Account for Siblings or Re-Enrolling Students (REQUIRED)

Step 2 can ONLY be completed on a Laptop or Desktop computer using a Chrome, Firefox or Edge browser. Mobile devices, like iPhones and/or Android are not compatible. Safari is also not compatible.

Once you have access to the PowerSchool Parent Portal, you are ready to move forward in the second step of the enrollment process. As you work through each form, click submit at the bottom to save your progress. You may go back to each tabbed portion of the form to continue or correct content. It is imperative that you read and complete each section in its entirety and attach all required documentation to move the process forward and eliminate delays.

To upload documents to PowerSchool, you must Register an Account.

To register account, add your PowerSchool Parent Portal email address and password. (You only need to register once. Future sessions will require you to SIGN IN before uploading).
Click on Register button and agree to the terms.

If you are trying to upload a document to a form and it is not working, the following tips can clear errors:

Clear the cache in your browser
Clear cookies in your browser
Make sure you are NOT in private browsing mode
Files must be under 5MB in size
File names cannot include any special characters, including periods or commas

Student's Original/Certified Birth Certificate

Parent/Legal Guardian Picture ID

One of the following is required as parent/legal guardian identification and MUST be uploaded to your PowerSchool Parent Portal Account.

GUARDIANSHIP: Only a Parent or Full Legal Guardian may enroll a student. Full Legal Guardianship documentation, obtained through the Courts, is required at the time of enrollment. If you have special circumstances other than these, please call to discuss.

Proof of Residency

Residency is based on where a parent/legal guardian owns and/or physically resides. Working within the Troy School District boundaries or owning rental property does not constitute residency. Parent whose legal/principal residence is in Troy School District boundaries must be on the birth certificate. The following residency documents will be accepted and “the district reserves the right to verify residency information provided.” Based on documentation received during this process, a “Principal Residents Exemption” form may be required for additional verification.

*PLEASE NOTE: If you own a home, physically occupy that home, or claim it as your primary residence on your taxes, you may not use another individual’s residential information to enroll. You will need to upload residency proof to PowerSchool.

Established Resident

Home Owner:

Parent/Legal Guardian’s current Property Tax Statement and (2) current utility bills, each from a different source (must include name and address of parent/legal guardian).

Lease/Rental Agreement:

Parent/Legal Guardian’s current “legal and/or notarized” Lease/Rental Agreement and (2) current utility bills, each from a different source (must include name and address of parent/legal guardian, landlord or rental company name and phone number, address of rental, lease start and end date, and all appropriate signatures). Name(s) of student(s) being enrolled MUST be listed as tenants/occupants on Lease/Rental Agreement. After initial enrollment, it is imperative that leases are kept up-to-date and renewals submitted to the “attending building” upon their expiration.

New Resident

New Home Purchase:

Parent/Legal Guardian’s (Purchaser’s) Closing Documents (we will extract copies of Warranty Deed and Buyer’s Closing Disclosure). Based on documentation provided, a “Principal Residents Exemption” and “Property Transfer Affidavit” may be required for additional verification. If family is moving from another home they own, a “Rescind of Principal Residents Exemption” from the previous home must be provided. After 30 days, (2) current utility bills, each from a different source (must include name and address of parent/legal guardian) must be provided to your student’s attending building. Family MUST be currently residing at the home.

New Lease/Rental Agreement:

Parent/Legal Guardian name as Leaseholder and name(s) of student(s) being enrolled must be listed as tenants/occupants on the “legal and/or notarized” Lease/Rental Agreement and after 30 days, (2) current utility bills, each from a different source (must include name and address of parent/legal guardian, landlord or rental company name and phone number, address of rental, lease start and end date, and all appropriate signatures). Family MUST be currently residing at the home. After initial enrollment, it is imperative that leases are kept up-to-date and renewals submitted to the attending building upon their expiration.

Purchasing/Building a Home (not yet moved into the district)

Residing with a Troy School District Resident (who owns their own home)

If the parent/legal guardian resides with a resident of the Troy School District, who owns their own home, you must provide the resident’s current Property Tax Statement and (2) current utility bills, each from a different source (must include name, address and phone number of home owner). In addition, the parent/legal guardian of the student(s) must complete a “Residential Affidavit” form (received at Enrollment) and have it notarized. The “Residential Affidavit” will be reviewed yearly for approved renewal. The parent/legal guardian must also provide (2) current supporting documents such as utility bill, bank statement, etc., each from a different source (must include name and address of parent/legal guardian).

Residing with a Troy School District Resident (who leases/rents a property)

If the parent/legal guardian is residing with a resident of the Troy School District, who leases or rents a property, you will need their current “legal and/or notarized” Lease/Rental Agreement (Landlord name and telephone number must be provided), and (2) utility bills, each from a different source (must include name and address of home owner, landlord or rental company name and phone number, address of rental, lease start and end date, and all appropriate signatures).

THE PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN AND STUDENT(S) NAME MUST BE ON THE LEASE as tenants/occupants.

The parent/legal guardian must also provide (2) current supporting documents such as utility bill, bank statement, etc., each from a different source (must include name and address of parent/legal guardian). After initial enrollment, it is imperative that leases are kept up-to-date and renewals submitted to the attending building upon their expiration.

Medication Authorization & FARE Forms

The Troy School District (TSD), is committed to ensuring the health and safety of all students. Updated Medication Authorization Forms and Medical Action Plans (MAPs) are required at the start of every school year and expire on the last day of instruction. The Medication Authorization Forms and MAP provides TSD with required medical direction from your primary, licensed health care provider and allows staff to provide services, such as, medication administration, medical interventions and/or medical procedures.
